Olympic Sports Day.
Wednesday 22nd June
The sun had its hat well and truly on today for this year’s end of term Olympic Sports Day. After a delicious shared snack the children had lots of fun running for their teams and flags, as did the teachers, jollied along and kept in line by the master of ceremonies Henny Davies. The overall winners were the German team and the runners up the Turkish team but very well done to everyone for their great effort in the afternoon heat .
As always, the fun was followed by our leaving ceremony, with the pupils who are going off to new pastures, (new schools and new countries) receiving their APARC certificates from our headmistress Marianne Congreve. We then said goodbye to Lucy Brousse who has been a tirelessly cheerful APARC teaching assistant with the little ones for the past five years. We all wonder how she will manage to fill up her Wednesday afternoons from now on.
Finally we bade a fond farewell to Cherry Clarke who has been teaching with APARC for eight years. Cherry’s excellent teaching skills, dedication, good humoured presence and ready laugh have been much appreciated by pupils, parents and colleagues alike over the years. Cherry is moving back to England this summer with her husband Nick for professional reasons and although there are many exciting things awaiting her across the Channel, we hope that this is not ‘adieu’ but rather (as Robert Burns would have said had he been French) ce n'est qu'un au revoir .
